About Me.
I'm sorry I don't talk about facts, numbers or academic successes. I want to share a vision. One that I had when I was only eight years old. At that time I was beginning my formal studies of drawing and painting. One afternoon a book caught my attention and it was a revelation. It recounted page after page the behind the scenes of Disney. The music, the scenery, the characters, the special effects. Since then it was my inspiration.
Years went by and finally in 1982 I got my first computer. It was the Z80 era.
When I turned it on I could see a whole world of possibilities. Imagine movies made by this wonderful technology. Totally realistic virtual characters and much more.
I had to understand it, to learn how to program that computer. Without internet and with a copy of the microprocessor manual.
My two passions, artistic drawing and programming came together when I read an article that told how a company that had developed a video game engine had had problems when trying to give more realism to a project of their own.
That was my starting point and this is my contribution.
The Idea
I downloaded the Unreal Engine version. It was all I needed. The approach was relatively simple. I remembered my years with the Z80 and the headaches it took me to master it. Its limitations now relegated to history. I had to squeeze every last bit out of it. How to achieve the maximum approximation to the reality of the image and at the same time to be seen fluently.
As a programmer I knew firsthand the processing weight that the GPU and CPU had to support. Today we don't remember that multitasking had its origins in what was called a vectorized interrupt. We live under the illusion that one computer can do it all. But in the end it all has a processing weight.
I had to balance realism with operational fluidity to make it accessible to anyone with more than a minimal device.
And that's what I achieved with version 4.27.
Thanks for reading me.
